FOR RELEASE FRIDAY APRIL 23, 20102010 South Carolina Golf Association – Club of the Year AnnouncedColumbia, SC - In 1995, the South Carolina Legislature passed a bill designating the last full week of April each year as Golf Week. This bill was passed in order to create awareness for the legislature, businesses, and the general public, on the statewide economic impact derived from the game of golf. Each year the South Carolina Junior Golf Foundation assumes the role of conducting Golf Week and hosts a number of events supporting the game and focuses on the impact golf has on our state. South Carolina Golf Week 2010 is scheduled for April 18 -24. One of the highlights of the busy Golf Week schedule is the announcing of the SCGA Club of the Year on Friday, April 23rd which is also Club Appreciation Day. The SCGA is pleased and proud to announce that the 2010 Club of the Year is Colleton River Plantation in Bluffton SC. Colleton River Plantation has two spectacular eighteen hole layouts, the Nicklaus Course and the Dye Course. The Nicklaus course was opened in 1993 and was recognized by Golf Digest as Best New Private Course in the US. Not to be outdone, the Dye Course was opened in 1999 and received the same honor. Colleton River Plantation developed and offers “The Art of Golf Club Living”. In terms of supporting the SCGA tournament programs, in 2001 the Dye course hosted the SCGA Amateur and the SCGA Senior Championship was hosted by the Nicklaus Course in 2007. The SCGA conducts seven USGA qualifiers for our US championships, and Colleton has been quick to offer their facility as a host site. Colleton River has also hosted USGA Open, Amateur, Senior Open qualifiers and, in fact, last year agreed to host the USGA Amateur qualifiers through the year 2020. The support by Colleton River has not been limited just to the SCGA tournament programs. The members and management have been strong supporters of the South Carolina Junior Golf Foundation. Financial support from Colleton River has been instrumental in the ability of the SCJGF to reach the youth of SC with scholarships and junior golf programs. Clubs like Colleton River Plantation are the backbone of the SCGA as we continue to provide golf programs in South Carolina. We applaud the efforts of their membership, staff and management.
